Covington Schools to Close Wednesday for Sweet 16 Tournament

Covington Independent Public Schools across the district will be closed Wednesday, March 6 as the Holmes High School boys basketball team heads to Lexington and Rupp Arena for the Kentucky Sweet Sixteen state basketball tournanment.

The missed day will be added as a make-up day at the end of the year, currently scheduled as May 28.

Holmes, champions of the Ninth Region, plays Louisville Pleasure Ridge Park, champions of the Sixth Region, in the tournament's opening round Wednesday at 1:30 p.m.

On Tuesday at 9:00 a.m. the public is invited to attend a pep rally send-off in the high school auditorium.

Tickets for Wednesday's game are on sale now at the Holmes athletics office for $9, far cheaper than the $17-$22 charge at the arena in Lexington.
